Introduction:
In today’s world, it is crucial to be aware of the products we use on a daily basis and their potential impact on our health. Many commonly used items, such as heavily fragranced candles, laundry detergent, toothpaste, and deodorant, contain hormone disrupters. These disrupters can interfere with our endocrine system, leading to a range of health issues. In this blog post, I will share my personal journey of swapping these products for non-toxic alternatives that are friendlier to our hormones.
1. Non-Toxic Candles:
One of the first changes I made was swapping heavily fragranced candles for non-toxic versions. Many scented candles on the market contain synthetic fragrances and paraffin wax, which can release harmful chemicals when burned. Opting for non-toxic candles made from natural ingredients, such as soy or beeswax, not only eliminates hormone disrupters but also provides a safer and cleaner burning experience. After trying several candles and being disappointed in smell longevity, or burn time, I found River Birch Candles. With a 40 hour burn time, and scents like Almond and Honey, Tobacco Vanilla, and Spa Day, these candles are a great non-toxic swap!
2. Hormone-Friendly Laundry Detergent:
Laundry detergent is another product that often contains hormone disrupters in the form of synthetic fragrances and harsh chemicals. Switching to hormone-friendly laundry detergents, which are free from artificial fragrances, dyes, and harsh additives, can significantly reduce our exposure to these harmful substances. Our skin is our biggest organ. It’s time we pay attention to what we’re putting on it. Additionally, choosing eco-friendly options can contribute to a healthier environment. I’m pretty picky about my laundry detergent, and I won’t lie, it’s overwhelming sorting through all of the green washed products and wondering which ones are truly safe. I spend hours checking ingredients lists and looking up scores on Think Dirty and EWG. These are two trusted places to find low and non-toxic products. I finally found my favorite! Attitude products are amazing, they smell great, they have great non-toxic ingredients, they’re safe for HE machines, and they leave my laundry smelling and looking clean and fresh!
3. Clean Toothpaste:
Toothpaste is something we use daily, but it’s easy to overlook the potential hormone disrupters it may contain. Many conventional toothpaste brands include ingredients like fluoride, triclosan, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), and artificial sweeteners, which can negatively affect our endocrine system. Opting for clean toothpaste alternatives, free from these harmful ingredients and enriched with natural ingredients, can help maintain oral health without compromising overall well-being. I didn’t think I would find anything that I liked better than my old toothpaste. I wanted my teeth to still feel clean and look white, and I was worried that natural toothpaste wouldn’t achieve that. I was wrong! I’m so happy I found David’s, it’s EWG verified, SLS free, and fluoride free.
4. Harmful-Ingredient-Free Deodorant:
Deodorants and antiperspirants often contain aluminum, parabens, and other chemicals linked to hormone disruption. These substances can be absorbed into our bodies through the skin, increasing the risk of various health issues. Transitioning to deodorants without harmful ingredients, such as aluminum-free options or those made from natural ingredients like baking soda and essential oils, can provide effective odor protection while keeping our hormones in balance. I tried several natural deodorants before I found the one that worked the best for me. I love Schmidt’s because of their clean ingredients list, and the vanilla rose smells amazing. They have so many great scents, and it works all day long!
Conclusion:
By swapping heavily fragranced candles, laundry detergent, toothpaste, and deodorant for non-toxic alternatives, we can reduce our exposure to hormone disrupters and prioritize our overall health. Making these small changes not only benefits our individual well-being but also contributes to creating a safer and healthier environment for everyone. Let’s take control of the products we use and make conscious choices to protect our hormones and promote a more sustainable future.
